<< Puppy Potty Training Tips  Potty Training A Puppy To Pee On Command >>

Is it litter, newspaper, or outside?

Crate training!!! Do not let the dog freely run through the house unattended. Keep him in a crate if you’re not going to watch him. Dogs won’t go in their crate if they can help it. Take it outside once an hour and praise it when it goes to the bathroom. Do this for a few months. It won’t be long til your dog is completely house broken

You need to do it outside. If you paper train it then you have to turn around again and train it to go outside instead of every piece of paper you leave lying around. (Or magazine, etc.)

I think that there are many different ways to effectively do this. The most common way is to use a crate just the right size for the dog. Look up crate-training on google. The dog stays in the crate when you can’t be with him. He is taken outside the minute he comes out of the crate and you bring a special treat (only for training potty, maybe cheese or chicken and this is only for this training) and when he eliminates outdoors, you show him how happy you are and he gets his special treat. Use the words you want him to understand that means to eliminate outside. Like "go potty" or whatever you want use. Puppies will have to go often so when the dog has eliminated, I would keep him on a leash with you where ever you go. When he starts to sniff the ground or circle, he will probably have to go again. Quickly bring him outside and say those words you want him to learn. The treat is only if he eliminates, never give otherwise. Good luck! There is also clicker training. Google.

It’s best if you can stay home with your puppy for about 2 weeks, look for signs that he needs to use the restroom and take him outside immediately…also take him out every hour just in case…over night lock him up in a cage or if your leaving your house, dogs dont like to use the restroom where they sleep… dont leave him for a long length of time though! He might wine if he needs to pee in the middle of the night, dont ignore him!!! Expect some accidents and if you are gone all day leave him outside…also, feed him once or twice a day and his bathroom breaks will be more consistent… take him out about 15-20 minutes after he drinks water!!! Be diligent and this will work!

Take him outside every couple of hours and immediately after eating and crate him at night or when you’re not home.
