Getting a puppy isn’t just fun and games, there is a certain amount of responsibility in maintaining them with perhaps none more frustrating than Potty Training Puppies. It’s not like you can tell them to use the bathroom whenever they feel like relieving themselves, even if you get to pull that off, good luck in getting them to flush the toilet after using it.

No worries though because there are certain steps you can follow in making sure that your puppies relieve themselves when you want them to and where you want them to and it doesn’t involve the use of hypnosis or acquiring the services of a snake charmer. You might even be surprised as to how easy it is to potty train a puppy. Just how easy? Well easy enough to summarize in three steps:

Three Easy Steps For Potty Training Puppies

1. Schedule the meals to influence the call of nature - There is a certain amount of time a puppies digestive system takes to complete its cycle and get from meal to waste. This varies from puppy to puppy so monitor the amount of time it takes your puppy to relieve itself after a full meal. It may take several monitoring sessions to determine the average amount of time but once you get it then proceed to step two.

2. Take the business inside or outside - Figure out whether you want your puppy to do its business inside your house or outdoors. Keep in mind that what is important is what is convenient to you because you can go either way. Whether you are potty training puppies indoors or outdoors you would still have to clean up after it.

3. Paper or plastic - If you’re going to train your puppies to do its business indoors then you need a liberal amount of newspaper and scent spray which is available in most pet stores.

a. Whenever your puppy needs to relieve itself lay down a generous stack of newspapers and spray a small amount of scent spray on it.

b. Restrict the puppy within the newspaper covered area and wait until it relieves itself. Right after it does let it smell the scent sprayed on the newspaper.

c. Repeat b until your puppy gets used to the newspaper or the scent it will look for either of the two next times it needs to relieve itself.

If you are training the puppy to do its business outdoors then just take it out for a walk. It will eventually find a spot after a while and assume the position. Do not forget to clean up after your puppy. Sooner or later when the puppy gets used to this system it will show signs of wanting to go outside when it feels the urge to commune with nature.

And there you have it three sure fire easy steps for potty training puppies. It doesn’t cost much; it doesn’t take rocket science, not even awkwardly expensive gadgets - just a good amount of patience.

Housebreaking any new pet can be a difficult chore, but with repetition and practice the challenge will become easier and easier. If you want the puppy to listen only to you, then don’t allow him to play with other persons. Potty training your new puppy is a necessary evil. Doing the task over and over will help train your puppy quickly and efficiently.

Your pet is living in a human world full of confusing things and behavior he can’t understand. It is better to create good habits in the beginning; if you start early you can stop behavior problems such as biting or jumping on furniture.

Every dog owner knows that when he/she treats the dog with praise the dog will get greater satisfaction and will execute the command more readily than if the dog receives discipline in another fashion. So when training your dog needs positive reinforcement.

You can train a dog on your own, or you can join an obedience training class and get instruction from professionals. You will find many resources online and most of the online sites are free and you will find many tips and secrets to dog training.

IF you really want to train your puppy you will need to put some effort into it. And some type of dog is trained just for that.

Having a dog that can perform tricks and is very obedient and well trained is the pride and joy of every dog owner. While they are generally warm, loving and loyal, they can be trained to be more obedient. Even if you only have your dog inside for a short amount of time he or she must be trained not to leave a mess.

The correct position for the heel command is your dog at your left side with his shoulder and front leg aligned with your left leg. When you and your dog have a good relationship and training will come very easily. Once your dog understands the commands and you have trained him to a certain point, no matter where you are he/she will obey.

When training your puppy make sure you use positive experiences because negative experiences might affect your puppy, so make sure you make the training positive and fun. And this training requires frequent, consistent, and appropriately timed positive reinforcement. Unlike man, dogs do not know how to differentiate between positive and negative attention.

Your dog will its best when it receives praise, so using positive words and reinforcement you dog will do it best when training him/her. There are two elements at work here: positive reinforcement and intermittent reinforcement. All positive commands should be spoken sharply and distinctly during training.

When training your pet you can use the treat system, this system is training with a treat by rewarding your dog with his/her favorite snack for following your commands or doing something good. Try to go outside with him at least every thirty minutes or so, and make sure you praise or reward him for relieving himself outside.

Properly crate training your puppy is one of the best things that you could possibly do.

At around three weeks old, your puppy is readily able to adapt to new situations and because they are one of the smartest creatures by nature, Potty Training Puppies will not be too difficult for anyone.

As a new owner, you have a choice whether you want to confine your puppy or not. Crating is what most puppy parents prefer for accident prevention at night or when they have to leave their precious ones for a period of time. However, some would want to train their puppies to become more responsible by giving them access to everything but with restrictions and limitations. This may sound a little harder than the other considering their playful behavior and uncontrollable urges, but if you choose to apply this, here are the tips you may consider:

You may actually teach your puppy to eliminate outdoor or indoor on papers. Nevertheless, whichever method you choose, you have to be very consistent. You may also apply paper training for a short time or until your puppy is learning to go potty to the acceptable areas outside or inside the house, but you must teach him/her step-by-step until he finally masters his potty routines.

Whether outdoor or indoor, you have to designate a spot for his potty time. Let him sniff that spot and wait until he finally relieved himself and take him to the same place each time. The scent that remained will help stimulate him/her to use the spot again the next time he needs to eliminate.

For young puppies, take them out with a leash or carry them to the designated spot within 20 minutes or immediately after each meal, after play sessions, and after rest sessions. Scheduling is the key to an effective puppy house training so again, you have to be consistent. Use the same schedule everyday but also watch for the indications that your puppy needs to go.

During every potty break, give your puppy a command such as “go pee”, “go potty”, or “do it” to build an association between the command phrase and his potty break. Repeat it quietly as many times necessary until your puppy gets familiar with it. This way, it will be easy for him to understand and follow the same command the next time it is given.

When potty training puppies, you can expect that there would always be mistakes and accidents. Puppies are like babies; they can hardly tell whether they need to go or not. So you better watch out for the warning signs like sniffing or squatting then immediately distract them by stamping your foot or clapping your hands while leading them away from the restricted zone.

Finally, praise your puppy with an encouraging words like “good puppy” or “good job” when he performs in the right spot. Let him know you are delighted by giving small rewards or privileges like allowing him to play inside your room. As soon as he becomes more dependable and responsible, you can allow him to move freely inside the house.
