My twins were about 2 1/2 before they mastered the skill. My daughter was 3 before she was even willing to discuss the matter and I have a 3 1/2 year old that thinks its a game. I say try it, but don't push the matter otherwise in a couple of years you will have two 3 1/2 year olds fighting you.
