Yes it is possible. I have 3 dogs and they do have different allowences such as the big dogs can not jump on me but the small one can. They do learn what they are taught and do not resent the other one that can do something they can’t.

the new dog is trainable aside from the spoiled brat your wife owns. it will not resent the existing dog for being spoiled (dogs don’t have the same emotions humans do and don’t think the way humans do). however, the first dog would be a happier dog if it too had some basic training and knew what the rules of the household were, so it wouldn’t have to keep trying to figure out it’s place. also, the first dog may not accept the new dog given it’s lack of training and lack of socialization. good luck, because you will need it.

We started off with a dog that was allowed free roam of the house, and she was allowed on beds and on furniture, and she was fed from the table. When we went to get a second dog, we decided that since the second dog was a big dog, we didn’t want her on furniture or anything…but the trainer said that it would be impossible to train the second dog to behave any differently than the first dog. He warned us that the second dog would just do everything she saw our first dog doing. So before we got the second dog, we actually had to take the first dog to get trained properly.

Rent the Cesar Milan DVD’s (The Dog Whisperer)!!! I’ve watched all of them! And I learned so much. My dog is happier and we have a normal routine!!! Your wife will be happier and you will be happier too!

yes its possible the new dog is coming onto the other dogs territory so the older dog may be jealous though so make sure you guys still give it a lot of attention

Yes, it is possible. No, the dog will not "resent" the existing dog.

Edit: For the poster who claims that you have to train the 1st dog before you get/can train the second… I’ve been training dogs for a very long time. Some of my dogs are allowed on furniture, others are not. Each dog is trained individually to MY specifications (or the specifications of the person who will eventually be handling the dog). Dogs follow rules if humans are consistant in demanding they follow the rules. Its called TRAINING.
