Leash training puppy for potty training?

I have been trying to potty train my shih tzu puppy and I read to leash train at same time to keep him from playing when I take him out to do his business. But he just lays down and I tried pulling on leash to get him to follow but I feel bad, how do I go about doing this?
Here’s two very important topics that you have to go about,

This probably sounds silly but walk your dog around in small circles and say the word you use to tell the dog to potty. Dogs usually turn around in circles when they are about to potty.
Often this is all that is needed for them to get the message.

Do you talk to Him in a high voice before you put on the leash and while you are out on the leash . Do you offer him treats while on the leash. Did you try a harness over a collar the weight on the neck muscles might be bothering him.

Use food to get him to follow you. "A carrot in front of the nose..so to speak". He is unsure as to this leash thing. Most puppies are, it will come. Also…attach the leash when he is not outside and let him roam with it to get used to the idea

Shihtzus hate leashes. but if you need him to go for a walks, dont tug on him, simply pick him up and say no and then put ihm back down. If you dont train him when hes a puppy he will never do it. doing that is a pain, i prefer using pee pads. its very easy to train them on pee pads. Hope this helps!!!!!
