<< Help house training puppy?  House training? >>

Hi Paul…

We just got our first dog last month, his name is Rambo and he rocks!

He was peeing everywhere, so I did some Google searching and came across this:

This helped us a ton and hopefully it helps you too.

You get yourself a crate and a schedule and you stick with it! http://www.cratetraining.net

training a puppy at an early age will be a wise choice. since they are young, they will follow and learn traits quickly. how to train it? make it do what you want you to do… GENTLY THOUGH! for example, if you want it to sit, then say sit for several times, and GENTLY "MAKE" IT SIT. always have food/treats prepared as a reward!
repeat those and it will soon be an A+ sitter! before long, it will be doing backflips and aerobatics! XD

be patient however, because most dogs are reluctantly or are confused of why you are making them do the tricks.

The best way is crate training. Use a crate that is not too big. Puppies do not like to mess themselves. If the crate is too big, then the puppy can poop in another part of the cage. The puppy must be be given ample opportunies to get out to go outside. Praise profusely.

Make the cage a nice place. Give cookies in the crate, pet in the crate. This will be come a place of safety for your dog, though they may not like it for the first week.

It is a highly effective method.

I would start with the pee pads…I personally don’t think much of crate training them. Just put your puppy on the pad about all 30 minutes and try to make it pee.
If it does not need to pee try again 30 minutes later. Some pads have a special scent so it makes want to pee right there. If your puppy did well you must reward it.
Be loud, crazy, show the puppy it made you happy and maybe give it a treat. Repeat this all the time and never forget the reward.

If you puppy tries to pee or poop in the floor then don’t yell at it. Take the puppy immediately (even when it still pees or poops) and put it one the pad.
    Repeat this all the time!

Good Luck and have some patience because they are like babies!

Once your puppy know to pee on those pads you can start taking them outside. Just repeat the same reward thing outside - and never yell or rub their nose in the pee.

Right after eating or waking up in the morning, put him/her outside and praise like h$ll when he/she goes potty!! Make it the biggest celebration you’ve ever had!

The keys to good housetraining include:

    * Using a crate to prevent accidents and make it more likely that your pup will eliminate when you take her outside; and
    * Rewarding your puppy handsomely whenever she does the right thing in the right place. Punishing your pup for mistakes can actually make housetraining harder.

Buy a crate and take the puppy out every hour or so.If it doesn’t go potty you can put in the crate for about 5-10 minuets then take it out again if it does potty give it a treat and high praise if it potties in the house put it in the crate for about 30 minuets thats how i trained my chihuahua

really all you have to do is teach them how to use their doggy toilet.what you do is just show them how to find the bathroom.

There are things called pee- pee pads that you can use inside also there are pee posts that you can use outside that are suppose to have high pheromone levels on it. I found that the most important thing was to take the dog outside every hour or so at first until he gets the idea. When the you take the dog outside and he/she does something a must is to praise them and give them a treat as a reward. My Maltese is almost a year old and I still give him treats but not as much just as a positive reinforcement. That’s how I trained my Maltese terrier.
