Welcome to my blog about Potty Training Puppies. This is one of the first tasks to tackle when you bring home your new pet. And, it’s one of the most important. Proper training right from the start will make it easier for you and your new best friend.

We’ve had two dogs from puppies. A Golden Retriever named Pirate who lived until he was 16 and a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier named Una (rhymes with tuna and means ‘unity’ and ‘little lamb’ in Gaelic). Both were crate-trained with great succes.

However, crate-training isn’t the only way to go. As you’ll discover in the various articles and videos on this page, there are a number of methods. The common thread is the use of consistency and patience. Read and view to discover the method that’s right for you.

HELP! House Training Puppy!!?

Scooby is my 8 pound Toy Fox Terrier I have had him 2 months and he six months old, I have been trying to house train him with the crate..how should I schedule this thing? At one point he would hold himself and go when we let him out, but now he will sit on the step and go once he gets inside.Should I leave him out a little longer? Is it because he is such a small dog and cold? Help..I am tired of steam cleaning, and spot botting my carpet. I need help this is the first puppy for my family and he is a great puppy but this is like WOW!!Please HELP

go outside with him. when he uses the bathroom outside make a big deal out of it and feed him treats. Trust me, this works. eventually he will associate using the bathroom outside as a positive thing. don’t worry he’s still young. he should out grow it but definitly try the treat thing

Stay dog house training??

Well my dog , i found a week ago or two again and no luck with finding the owner. So shes mine now but i have a problem.

When i first got her , she appeared to be house broken. She would go in the house but she would go out side.

Now she has began to go on my floor and when i take her outside she will sit there and just look up at me , ive sat out with her for atleast 30 mins one time. Sometimes she even runs into the neighbors yard and sits there and when i try to go get her she runs even farther away from me.

I need somehelp , if this continues im going to put her up for adoption .

Shes starting to corrupt my own dog that i housebroken . Hes been going on the floor too with her around.

HI, This is the number one question Dog Owners always ask me. How to Housebreak their dogs.

You have to understand the basics. What goes in must come out and you have to know when that is. You have to put your pet on a schedule.

Sit down and make a list of times your going to feed and water them. Make sure you give enough time for them to consumpe both.

An example would be when you get up in the morning take them out then bring them in and feed, water. leave it down for about 30 minutes. Then take them out agian. If their puppies your going to have to do this several times aday. But do this atleast 3 times aday and give a little water in between the feeding. That’s right, you have to pick the water up too.

You don’t have to leave water down all the time if their in a controlled eviroment like a house. Outside is different. But once the food and wtaer is down for 30 miutes, pick both up.

Write down the times your going to do this, plus the times you take them out. Stick with it. If they have anaccident in the house. DON"T yell at them, just writhe down the time and see if there’s a trend of going that time of a several day period. If there is, adjust the schedule to make sure they go out at that time.

Some Dogs are very hard to housebreak, but with a schedule, atleast they will know when their going to be feed and taken out.

problems potty training a puppy?

i have a 5 month old puppy that ive had for almost 3 months now. she hasn’t pooped in the house in months but still pees in the house pretty often, maybe once or trice a day. it seems like sometimes she will come get me or go by the door and cry to go out and other times she will just go on the floor, and when she does go out i give her treats and reward her for going outside. ive been taking her food and water away before bed time and lately she has been doing good and only getting up in once in the middle of the night if not going the whole night without going out. im just looking for something else i can try because it seems like shes almost there.

you need to get rid of her scent mix together 50% white vinegar with 50% water spray it onto the area yr dog urinates this will get rid of the scent, although u may use household cleaners your dog can still smell the scent, this eliminates the odour completely

House training puppy help!!!?

I have a pomeranian puppy that just won’t go on the training mats! Everytime I see him sniffing and looking for a place to go, I place him on the pads immediately. Problem is, he runs off it and does his buisness right on the carpet. Why won’t he go on the pads? I need advice as a first time dog owner. Please help!

house training dog?

I got a chihuahua puppy (4 mos) a week ago. It’s a female. I have been trying to train her to pee outside by taking her out every few hours during the day. I wait until she starts squatting to pee or poo and as she does so I say "go pee, good girl" and as soon as she’s done with either pee or poo, I give her a treat. She is still messing alot in the house and any time she starts whining alot and I think she may need to go out, I take her out. It takes her 10 minutes to start trying to pee usually if even then. She just walks around and not just trying to find a spot to go. Sometimes during the day I can’t spend alot of time outside with her because I have to watch my son inside the house and I can’t take them both outside at the same time. I’m just not sure what to do.
we have a fenced yard, but the fence is in bad shape. Plus, I am trying to actually train her and give her praise when she goes, so I need to be with her. How long does it typically take to train them to go outside?

Hi there! I have a yorkie and when i brought her home for the first time i found this to be the hardest thing..LOL One thing that i thought first, she is a puppy. Second, she is in a new surrounding…(I think they test us for awhile to see what they can get a way with.. :0)) Anyways i tried taking her out every 10-15 min and was going to move up a little longer however i found this did not work. What I found to work (to my surprise) I tied a bell to the door (the one i take her out to go the bathroom) she got interested in what i put there and she pawed at it. Once the bell went off I excitedly said thats a good girl lets go potty .. i then found one phrase to use and only used it when she was going to the bathroom (you can say things like lets go potty, get busy etc. ) Anyways, i took her out side and stayed out with her until she did something. (this may take awhile so be prepared to stand outside.) To make a long story short… I let her register that the bell meant potty. She to this day uses the bell when she has to go… and if she really has to go and your not quick enough she will ring it harder and louder! She does not go to the bathroom in the house either. She now knows the outside is where we do our business. Also i use to give her a small treat to reward her for ringing the bell and doing something outside. So you can try that and see if that helps. Help with puppy potty training: Having a problem…?

I have had a new puppy for about a month now, got her when she was 8 weeks old. She is (possibly, no one really knows) a boxer/lab mix. I have potty trained puppies growing up, so I’ve done this successfully before. The problem is, she does not give me any sign (clawing at door, whining, etc.) that she has to go outside. The second I put her in the grass, she goes potty. I believe she understands that when she goes outside, to use that as a bathroom, because she’ll go instantly. But I always have to take her out and guess when she has to go. When will she learn to let ME know that she has to go? I have waited to see how long she can go, and she will just squat and go on the carpet unexpected, in the middle of playing or whatever. Any ideas how to train or speed up making her tell me she has to go and I can just let her out the door? She grasps the outside potty thing, and I know the accidents she can’t help. I’m caring, I don’t get frustrated… but any tips would help!

Our Golden did this. No indication whatsoever. We would tell her "no" in a firm, but not loud, voice when we caught her going inside and took her outside right away. We gave her a treat for going outside. Eventually she started whining at the door when she needed to go out, and we would give her a treat for that, too, to encourage it. After a while, we no longer needed the treats.All in all, it took us about five months (she was about seven months old) before she finally "got it" and we no longer had to use treats for potty-training.
