<< puppy house training! they now know to go outside because the weather has been good and the doors been open?  house training tips for a westie puppy? >>

10 week old puppy, crate training. A few times she has peed on the floor immediately after coming back inside the house. Should you take her back out to her elimination spot at that point even though you know she will not go again that time? we do clean the floor spot to eliminate the residual odor.

You seem to have the problem that when she goes outside she won’t pee, since you are crate training her, when you take her out if she doesn’t pee within a couple of minutes put her back in the crate for a minute or two. Then take her back outside keep doing this until she pees outside.
A puppy will learn the longer they hold it the longer they get to play outside. Doing it the way I said above will break that habit.
Once they go potty in the house there isn’t much you can do. Just make sure when she goes potty outside you make a big fuss about it, and let her know how happy you are that she went outside.
Potty training is not fun! But have fun with your puppy.
And please no matter what anyone says if the puppy goes inside don’t do anything, don’t yell, don’t hit NOTHING….. But when she goes outside make sure you let her know that was a very good thing!

ANY TIME you catch her starting to go say "NO" sternly and take her right back outside to her potty spot even if you know she won’t go….make her wait out there for a while (till she loses interest in the spot is a good idea) and then bring her back in…..if you don’t your telling her that it is okay to go potty in the house (cause shes not getting into trouble for doing it)….when she does go outside make a BIG deal of her…..

I never have liked the crate training method!!

I have always trained my dogs to go outside on a leash.
I trained my 6 1/2 week old Lab puppy to go outside on a leash in 3 1/2 weeks.
I am home all day so that has helped a lot!!

I always keep my leash on the front door knob. I keep a close watch on my puppy and when she would put her nose to the carpet as if she were looking for something or would try to go into another room I would then pick her up sometimes I would do this many many times a day!!!

Since she was so small and would get distracted that is why I would pick her up. She would sometimes just pee where she was standing.
I carried her over to the door and put her leash on her. Then I carried her outside. I always would put her down in the same place. That way she could smell were she had done her business before. I would walk with her and keep telling her to go pee or poop.

When she had done her business I then would pick her up and bring her back inside. Try not to let the puppy play while it is trying to go potty. They can get confused as to why they are outside.
When I brought my puppy in the house I would give her a treat. I keep the treats by the front door. She knows they are there!!!

I feed my puppy three times a day. After my puppy ate I would wait for about 10-20 minutes then take her outside repeating the same process.
When she would take a drink of water I would wait for about 10-20 minutes then take her outside repeating the same process over.

I have our puppy sleep with my husband and me. That way I would know when she would wake up. When she did I would get up and take her out. I would have a hard time at times getting her back to bed. At 14 weeks old she only gets up once a night around 5am now
    .
She will go to the door and sit there until I come to take her out. She has even brought the leash to me a couple of times. Puppies have very small bladders and can’t hold it very long at all. If your puppy sleeps in a kennel or crate then keep it by your bed so you can hear when your puppy wakes up.

People that have to work 8-10 hours a day that isn’t fair to the poor puppy.

Now if you are wanting to train your puppy to go on a puppy pad that is a totally different method!!!! You will have to pick the puppy up and place it on the pad in the crate or kennel. You will need to sit with the puppy until it has done its business!!!
You will need to make sure the crate or kennel is big enough for the bed as well as the puppy pad. Dogs do not like to lay close to where they do their business.
There are sprays you can buy to put on the puppy pads that draw the puppies over to the pad. You can get it at pet stores or Doctor Foster&Smith.com.

    Good Luck

What I would do is watch her to see if she pees outside, if she does reward her when she comes in. If she doesn’t go outside then wants to come in then she pees on the floor when she comes in then I would kinda rub her nose in the pee and say bad girl then put her back outside for awhile. If u do the reward thing then after a week or 2 of no peeing in the house quit rewarding her.

PS. I have three dogs that I got when they were puppies. And they would do the same thing your dog would do. The stuff that I told u to do always works.
