Personal protection attack dog training video of a 7 month old German Shepherd/ Belgian Malinois mix puppy. Although this dog isn’t old enough to do real guard dog work it is being prepared to do real protection work… sort of like sending a child to karate class. He will finish guard dog training at about 18 months old. Quality protection dog training takes patience, respect, and knowledge. If a dog is trained with yelling and intimidation…how do you expect them to do protection work on a yelling man? Beware of people who sell sport dogs (aka schutzhund trained dogs) as “personal protection dogs. Sport dogs are trained to look pretty doing specific protection routines on a training field and may be confused in a real situation when there is not a bite sleeve or protection suit to bite. Also these types of protection dogs are trained to take stick hits instead of avoiding them and attcking that arm. This is because you can’t hold the stick with an arm within sleeve and schutzhund is a sport that is meant to prove a dogs bravery and show they are worthy of breeding, therefore they are trained to take stick hits that are always used with a stick that won’t really hurt the dog and are always hit on safe spots of the body. This is setting the dog up for failer when they must fight a person for real that is planning on hitting them in the head with an iron bar. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the dog training video of Matrix… another client dog trained by K9-1 Specialized Dog Training and Mike D’Abruzzo. more dog training info at http://www.k9-1.com

I have 3- 8 week old chihuahua puppies which until recently their mother was cleaning up after their potty habits She is no longer doing so, and they are all running around pot-tying over my house. This is the first time I have had puppies from birth, so I am trying to learn as much as I can. Should I have already been trying to take them outside? I was trying to paper train them but they are just eating the news papers instead. If anyone can tell me at what point I need to start outdoor training, and exactly how to do so (how often, when etc..) - without criticism- points go to you!
Thank you!

no, they can’t go outside until they’ve had their vaccinations. You can use puppy pads instead, they don’t tend to eat those. Use it somewhere indoors that doesn’t have carpet in case they don’t quite get it right. But yes, you should encourage it as soon as they are running around. You’d be surprised what a puppy can learn at such a young age

EDIT—-!!! JENNY!!!!!! STOP PASTING THAT CRAP! IT’S GETTING ON MY NERVES!!!

This video is on how to stop your puppy biting you.
The technique of clicking the absence of biting was shown to me by my mentor Kyle Rayon, who is one of the most amazing and innovative trainers, though she is very modest!

Dogs use their mouths to interact with their environment, so it is normal for a puppy to want to bite your hands or clothes. However in our society it is highly inappropriate. To train a puppy to stop using their mouth when interacting with humans is simple. All you have to do is set up training scenarios where your puppy would normally start biting and train an alternate response- calmly sitting, lying down, standing, or walking with a closed mouth. First you would start with the least arousing game- so simply just a reaching hand. As you reach, click or say “yes” and then feed a treat. As the puppy is successful you can progress to more and more arousing stimulus.

You should not allow your dog to be man handled or petted roughly. Petting should not only be rewarding for the human but for the dog as well. However at some point in your dogs life, someone might get to your dog before you can stop them and be overly rough. You can prepare your dog for these situations by playing training games. But when these situations do occur in real life, respect your dog, and get them out of the stressful situation. Do practice handling exercises for grooming as well as vet visits regularly…

Tips-

These exercises should only be done by ADULTS. As children can actually TEACH dogs to find mouthing and biting fun.

If you want to work with your child as the distraction, have your puppy with you on leash while you control all interactions. Making sure to end the game if the puppy is getting too aroused.

Children under the age of 5 should never be left alone with a dog or encouraged to interact with or pet dogs as they cannot control how rough they are and can make your dog learn to not like children as well as it being unsafe for the child.

Put your puppy on leash and tether him to a door so that you can escape him if you make a mistake by progressing too quickly and elicit mouthing.

If your puppy starts mouthing you during the training games it means you have gone too far too quickly- go back a step and make the game easier.

Make sure your puppy can always back away from you, so they don’t feel trapped or forced when being handled. This is because they could start learning to bite out of fear or stress.

If you have an adult dog or adolescent dog that is mouthy watch my Handling Shyness video.

If you must rough house with your dog- have a structured game where you hold a toy in each hand that the dog can bite. Never allow your dog to bite your hands when playing. If you feel teeth the game ends. Always have a cue to start and end the game, and never reinforce the dog for starting the game on his own.

Some video from my seminar in Brazil where I am transferring information to this puppy with our training system without any verbal language. The owner of this dog speaks Portugese and I do not know this language and the dog has not had any formal training. I felt that it would be best to show the puppy concepts so that the owner can put his language into it afterwards.

This clip shows me now taking the puppy and establishing more eye contact from a static position while seated on stairs. I will do a little petting of the dog as this will also lead to eye contact even while petting the dog which can be a big distraction for some dogs. A dog should be able to pay attention through touch also. It is a belief that a puppy can only pay attention for a short time span, but I believe that the line of communication that this opens between you and the puppy will expand his attention to a much higher degree a long with his confidence.
