I have a shiba inu beagle mix she’s proving extremely difficult to potty train. I’ve tried scaring her and taking her quickly outside when she has accident’s inside and I’ve tried giving her treats and praise when she does it outside. She’s still having lots of accidents (at least one a day) and she’s now 11 weeks old I’ve been working with her since I got her at 8 weeks.

I’ve heard of people having to get rid of their beagles because they will not potty train can anyone give me good solid tips to get her trained? I’ve potty trained a boxer american bulldog and a pure boxer with no problem just this shiba inu beagle mix is a a problem to train.

When I scare I have a soda pop can with pennies in, when I see her squatting I shake the can, it scares her and she stops. When I take her outside to finish she only finishes about half the time

Can you correct w/o ’scaring’? Showing displeasure should be enough.

I used the method you are using with my two mixes (and I believe they’ve got beagle and shiba in their mix - although shiba is perhaps unlikely in a regular mutt)

You’ve got to strictly apply two concepts to your approach:

1) corrections must be immediate or the dog won’t know what the correction is for

2) "NEVER FIND IT" - what this means is: when your dog is indoors and not in its crate, it must be under your direct supervision, in your line of site, at all times, so you can always either prevent or immediately correct potties - and you NEVER FIND IT later, after the fact.

If you correct when you see the dog potty - but give it enough freedom to potty where you can’t see - then you train the dog to potty where you can’t see.

Do not feel bad about restricting your pups freedom untill she earns it. If you apply this approach religiously - she will earn it soon enough.

The moral of this video is to not put boundaries on your puppy on what he is or is not capable of accomplishing through spirited training.

I just got a new blue heeler puppy and she seems smart, she uses her puppy pads and goes when I take her outside. But I was wondering if there are any tricks to potty training her..

when it comes to potty training there is no trick involved. if she is about to go on the floor give her a light spank and scold her and put her outside to do her thing or put her on the puppy pads. there is no trick involved

My beagle just had her first litter. It wasn’t planned, I had planned on breeding her with another beagle, but it looks like my girlfriend’s dog had other ideas. (we didn’t get him neutered in time, but he is now).

We have good homes for all the puppies, but they’re only 4 weeks old. We’ve been trying to get a jump start on potty training before they leave us in a few weeks. We’ve been paper training them because we don’t want them to spend all night in a crate without their mom.

I’ve been searching the web but haven’t found anything for puppies this young, everything I’ve found is for after the puppy is older and taken to it’s new home.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips etc or if it’s ok to separate them from their mom all night (which we don’t really want to do yet).

Thanks for any input!

How many weeks is a few? Don’t give them away until they’re AT LEAST 9 weeks. An. at that age, you can start potty training them. Sorry, but you’re not gonna be able housebreak a 4 week old. Their bladders are little, they don’t have any idea where they should do their business, and frankly, they probably don’t care.
